With his Empire of choice being unavailable, Napoleon wore another Emperor costume to Halloween in 1814.

In 1814 the most powerful man in the world was Napoleon Bonaparte. While yes, he was one of the greatest generals of all time (just ask the general staffs of every country in world war one, they still used his hundred year old tactics in 1914)! he was a fan of snazzy uniforms, and his own personal ego. Well, 1814 was not a very good year for Napoleon, in April a group of allies nations forced his abdication and gave him in trade of the throne of France the throne of the small islands that made up Elba. This small mountainous spot in the sun of the Mediterranean would seem the perfect vacation spot for the war weary field marshal, however this was not to be. The first thing he did when he hit the beach was form an army made up of his most trusted ex-employees in the French Army and continued to play dress up. For ten months he built the largest military force that had ever called Elba home before or since, then grabbed his costume and headed back to France.........you can read more about it here
